Local Dharma Leaders


Kathy Schwerin	Kathy began her meditation practice and dharma study in 1987 after traveling in Asia. She started teaching meditation classes in 1993 and later completed the Community Dharma Leader program at Spirit Rock Meditation Center. A psychotherapist in private practice in Carson City and Reno, she can’t imagine facing the suffering her clients bring to the room without the guiding light and transformative power of the dharma. She has taught mindfulness workshops for therapists and enjoys taking photos with her point-and-shoot camera. She is a licensed minister in Nevada.
Christy Tews	Christy is a graduate of the Community Dharma Leader (CDL) program at Spirit Rock Meditation Center (SRMC). She has been meditating since 1985. She finds that the straightforward way the Dharma addresses the difficulties of our daily lives, the transcendence possible on this path, and her love of the Dharma motivate her to continue the work. She holds a Bachelor of Arts with Honors in Home Economics from the University of Iowa, which explains her garden, and is a licensed minister in Nevada. She has traveled extensively in India, Nepal, Tibet and China and leads pilgrimages to the sacred sites of the Buddha in India.
