Reno Day-Long Retreat with John Travis
This silent retreat will begin with meditation instructions and consist of alternating periods of sitting and walking meditation. A talk will be given by the teacher after lunch.
We will be exploring the nature of awareness itself. Our practice during these two days are to collect the mind within a body-breath awareness, which then naturally opens into a panoramic awareness through which the heart softens and a depth of wisdom is revealed. This wisdom-awareness is then stabilized and integrated more and more throughout our experience of being human.
Beginning and experienced meditators are welcome.
Insight Meditation (Vipassana) is a simple and accessible vehicle for opening the heart, clearing the mind, and living in a peaceful and free way. It is based on a 2500-year-old Buddhist practice. Emphasis is placed on being aware of breath, body, mind, and heart.
Bring a lunch, bottled water, layered clothing, and cushions for sitting on the floor. Chairs will be provided. Since the teachings are considered priceless, there is no charge. Donations will be gratefully received to cover expenses for future retreats and to offer to the teacher. For John's biography, see Resources section of website.
