One Day-Long Retreat: Freedom in the Face of The Eight Worldly Winds: Pleasure/Pain, Gain/Loss, Praise/Blame, Fame/Disrepute

Saturday June 2nd from 9:30am-4:30pm “Freedom in the Face of The Eight Worldly Winds: Pleasure/Pain, Gain/Loss, Praise/Blame, Fame/Disrepute" With Heather Sundberg  “How do I respond wisely to the changing conditions of my life and the world? How do I bring the spirit compassion to the ways I fight change, lock down into habitual responses, and ‘act out’ in my relationships? How do I develop less reactivity in my relationships and life circumstances?” The eight worldly winds of pleasure/pain, gain/loss, praise/blame, fame/disrepute impact all of our lives. In this daylong, we will investigate these eight winds, how they manifest in our minds/lives, and examine what it means to have a heart open in the midst of all things. Teachings and practices will focus on developing the qualities of embodied groundedness, spaciousness, mindfulness, equanimity, and compassion. Enjoy a day of quiet sitting and walking meditation, which allow our minds to settle down, and our hearts to open to an inner wisdom. In addition to insight meditation practice, Heather will guide compassion and equanimity practices through sitting meditation, reflection practices, teachings, and plenty of discussion about how to live with increasing wisdom based on the teachings.    Heather Sundberg began teaching meditation in 1999. She has completed the four-year Spirit Rock/Insight Meditation Society Teacher Training. Beginning her own meditation practice in her late teens, for twenty years Heather has studied with senior teachers in the Insight Meditation and Tibetan traditions, and has sat 1-3 months of retreat a year for almost fifteen years. She is a Teacher for Mountain Stream Meditation Center in the Sierra Foothills, and also teaches classes, daylongs and retreats nationally, especially at Spirit Rock Meditation Center.  For more info., visit www.heathersundberg.com. Please register for this retreat with Blair O'Gorman at jbogorman@gmail.com or 775 786 7842.
