John Travis: Birth and Death Day Long

Everyday we are confronted with the reality of death, especially during this past year with the pandemic. At the same time, every moment can be seen as a birth. What can we learn from these important parts of our lives? John celebrates his birthday the day before our retreat (called our Continuation Day by Thich Nhat Hanh in the context of the Zen teaching of No Birth/No Death). He has spent many days contemplating the reality of death and the disintegration of the body at the cremation ghats in Varanasi, India, and the charnel grounds in Ladakh. He is the perfect guide to point us to some answers.

John Travis has been a student of meditation since 1969. He undertook Senior Teacher Training with Jack Kornfield at Spirit Rock Meditation Center. He was ordained and received Dharma transmission in the Vipassana tradition of Mahasi Sayadaw and Achaan Chaa.
John co-founded Mountain Stream Meditation Center at Nevada City, CA and continues to be the resident teacher there. In addition he is a senior teacher for the Spirit Rock Center. John continues to travel frequently to Asia and teaches retreats all over the United States.

The retreat is suitable for beginning and experienced meditators.
This is a non-residential retreat and registration is necessary in order to get the zoom information.
There is no charge for the retreat. The teachings of the Buddha are considered priceless and are offered freely. There will be an opportunity for the practice of generosity, (Dana), by offering donations to support the teacher and to Dharma Zephyr for covering the costs of presenting the retreat.
