Impermanence and the NSP Sangha

As you may have heard already, the powers that be have decided to close Nevada State Prison (NSP).

Many of the members of our Sangha there have already been moved to other prisons and the rest are likely to be moved soon.

This pending event has been embraced by many in the Sangha as an opportunity to practice and there has been much discussion about these events and how the dharma relates to the difficulties engendered by such change. I have been so positively impressed by many of the guys ability to maintain equanimity in the face of such difficulty.

Some of the guys will be transferred to other prisons in Carson City. Jeff has made contact with both Warm Springs Correctional Center and Northern Nevada Correctional Center (NNCC) and we got a negative response from one of them. I don't remember which one but will update this post when I have more info.

Hopefully we will be able to make a reasonably smooth transition to at least one of the local prisons and restart a Sangha there.

Update 9/16/11 - All but one of our Sangha members have now been transferred to other facilities.  The one remaining man has brought some new men the last couple of weeks though - so we are back up to about 5 each week.  We have been accepted at Warm Springs Corrctional Facility so plan to move there after NSP is closed.

Prison Sangha

Hi.  We will eventually be moving to the Warm Springs Correctional Center, I just don't know when.
