Hey, Steve!  We so often work

Hey, Steve!  We so often work with the metta phrases that we don't often hear the ones for the other brahma viharas.  "I care" phrases are for the practice of compassion when we are witnessing another's pain or suffering.  And the equanimity phrases remind us that things do not happen according to our wishes; the metta wishes are for our benefit, to cultivate our own minds, not to try to make something happen for the other person....

A great talk

I really got a lot out of Heather's talk last night.  It was very moving and informative.  Among other things she talked about metta meditation and shared her personal metta which was one I had never heard before - it went something like this:I care,I care about this pain,By my caring may this pain be eased.Another person there last night spoke to having some problems with the traditional metta lines as being unrealistic such as may all being be well, may all beings be happy, etc.  I too have found that these lines cause me discord and even though I find the metta practice of breathing in and out very powerful I have had trouble with wishing things that are unrealistic?I anticipate that her simple lines will be of great help to me.
